After 17,000+ people, and 13 days – spanning a 2 1/2 week period, the Utah Valley Parade of Homes comes to a close for this year. We hope you enjoyed our home!  For those of you not in attendance, we thought we’d share our top 5 favorite details with you, and why they made it on our list.

Number 5.  1/2 Bath on the Main Floor

This bathroom made it in the top 5 because of it’s uniqueness.  From the wallpaper style, tile pattern, cabinet selection, and ceiling detail (you can see the ceiling in the mirror reflection), the overall design achieved by Christy with Alice Lane Home was nothing short of genius.  For a powder bath, it’s quite dreamy.

Number 4.  Home Style

In Parade years past, we’ve featured many different styles of homes.  But this year we wanted to showcase a style in the parade you haven’t seen from the McEwan team before.   When we met with this homeowner and reviewed their plans, we knew this was the perfect house for the Parade of Homes!

French country or french provincial style is inspired by homes in Provence with characteristic of the 17th and 18th century.  Balance and symmetry are the ruling characteristics of this formal style. Windows and chimneys are symmetrical and perfectly balanced.  Other defining features include stone & brick exteriors, and typically a two story home with a high, hip roof.

This home is no exception to the high roof rule.  At it’s peak, the roof reaches 35′ above the ground.  And even more interesting is the fact that this home is a whopping 40′ underground at it’s deepest point in the earth.

Because of the style’s defining features, it demanded we include it in our top 5.

Number 3.  Playhouse

Complete with wood shakes and shutters, this fun space includes a slide, play area with reading table, built-in bookshelves, and space for storing toys and books. When it comes to play time in this space, it’s the ultimate in imaginary entertainment.

And just in case you didn’t know, the playhouse is connected by a secret passageway to the home gym.  So conveniently and hypothetically, mom could be exercising on the treadmill in the home gym and the kids could be running back and forth between spaces.

Because this space was designed specifically for this family and is a one of a kind, it made our top 5.

Number 2. Master Bedroom Suite

If you were able to tour the home during the Utah Valley Parade of Homes, you’ll understand why the master suite came in at number 2 on our list.  The master suite is magnificent, a work of art, simply superb, with the detail, detail, detail.

The master bedroom has the perfect amount of space for comfortable lounging by the fireplace on a cold winter evening.  It also has easy access to a separate patio in the back yard through french doors with a jacuzzi tub conveniently located next to said patio.

The master bathroom is a creation to behold, and has so many hidden features that you wouldn’t notice at first glance.  But let me enlighten you on a few…

  • Shower has steam, light & music therapy that softens & enhances mood with body spray and rain heads.
  • Superhuman toilet self-cleans and has light and music therapy.
  • Bathroom floor is a Calacutta gold marble tile that is laser cut to create the pattern, and imported from Italy.
  • Drawer knobs are geodes selected specifically for this space.
  • Gold paint adorns the ceiling, with custom cut crown molding to accent the space.
  • Custom built closet to maximize hanging storage and make the closet functional.
  • Washer and dryer are conveniently located in the closet for easy laundering access along with a built-in drying rack for hand washables.

This bedroom suite is the ultimate in luxury comfort and loaded with so many fabulous features, we had to include it at the top of the list.

Number 1.  Back Yard

This backyard was built for partying and has spacious and intimate spaces for small or big groups of guests.  We wanted to highlight the few things you may not have noticed while touring the home, and was not included in our previous Parade post:

  • The pool.  Need I say more?  The pool dimensions are 44′ x 22′ and 9 ft deep.  Oh, and don’t forget about the recirculating jets at one end of the pool, creating the ability to swim laps… without swimming laps.
  • The custom pool slide and spiral staircase.
  • The pool platforms and water falls.
  • Misters and patio lighting for the BBQ area by the pool house.
  • Gas fireplace pit area.
  • Jacuzzi tub off the master suite.
  • Underground trampoline along the back of the property line.
  • Grow boxes for a home garden.
  • Surrounding mountain view can be seen from almost any place in the back yard.

Because this space is the ultimate in fun, family, and entertainment, it topped off our list.

It’s parade time! McEwan Custom Homes is gearing up for the 2015 Parade of Homes with another awe-inspiring creation. Fresh off of our fourth People’s Choice Award, we’ve been working hard to build our latest submission for this year’s show.

As you already know, we’re all about the details. Each of our homes includes unique, custom details that set us apart from any other. This home is certainly no exception as we’ve got some exciting plans in place for its completion.

004 (Small)

So without further ado, here are some of the highlights you can expect to see when you stop by our Parade home this year.

Energy Efficiency

This house is on energy saving steroids, and has several features that may surprise you.

  • Geothermal System:  Geothermal is energy made by heat inside the Earth’s crust.  A water-filled, closed loop of 1-inch high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe ferries heat between the earth and the house. The system is moving heat, not creating heat.  Pumps cycle water through the pipe loop to the heart of the system: the geothermal unit, which acts as furnace and air conditioner. This machine uses refrigerant and the temperate water from the underground pipes to heat or cool air. The air is then circulated through standard ductwork of the home.

IMG_5016

This house has over 3 miles of underground polyethylene piping that is used to ferry water to the geothermal system.

  • This home is pre-wired for solar panels.
  • Insulation rating is R50.  Meaning, this home is SUPER insulated and their energy bills will reflect it.  To reach that rating we’ve used a blown in blanket system with Icynene closed cell foam and a rigid foam thermal break.
  • LED Light bulbs

Pool House & Patio’s

Between the pool, pool house, and backyard patio’s, it’s party central at this home!

  • There is a full basement underneath the pool house along with an open theater and seating area totaling 1400 square feet.  The pool house basement houses the pool pump and equipment, and has additional space to store patio furniture.
  • The pool house has it’s own heating/cooling system that is independent of the rest of the home.
  • There is a drop-down radial movie screen that projects a movie on both sides of the screen so that it can be viewed from virtually anywhere in the back yard.
  • A telescoping projector drops out of the ceiling on telescoping legs that extend out from the ceiling electronically.
  • The pool house has it’s own shower, bathroom and changing room.
  • Outdoor living area includes 3 BBQ’s, an ice maker, refrigerator, sink, drinking fountain, fire pit and fireplace.
  • Pool is equipped with recirculating pool jets on one side creating the ability to swim laps, without swimming laps…
  • What happens to the back patio when it snows, you ask?  We’ve installed snow melt radiant heating underneath the back patio which will eliminate snow and snow build up.

Sports Court

The indoor court provides the ultimate space for a fun get together.

  • Court capabilities:  Pickle-ball, volleyball, climbing wall, trampoline, foam pit, slide, jumping platform and observation deck for parents with camera capability viewable on any t.v. in the house.

20150429.Littledike.BCourt.Small. (3 of 3)
